Clean Water Profile: Mariah Davis

Mariah was named the River Network’s 2022 Emerging Leader this spring and was recently appointed to the Coalition’s Deputy Director. We sat down with Mariah to learn more about her experience and her ongoing plans to continue supporting water quality in the Chesapeake Bay.

Wetlands Watch: Resilience Approaches of a Virginia Coalition Member
Starting out in 1999 as a volunteer group, Wetlands Watch met around a kitchen table to fight a wetlands permit. “We stuck around and expanded to advocate for better protection of wetlands statewide. In 2007, after meeting with scientists about the impacts of sea level rise, we began to concentrate on protecting wetlands from climate change impacts. One of the first groups in the country to work on that, our goal is to protect Virginia’s wetlands today, tomorrow, and forever.”
Reviving, Restoring, and Reimagining Clean Water
After three years of postponing, it finally happened. The Choose Clean Water Coalition held a conference in Richmond, VA focusing on current issues involving Chesapeake Bay restoration. The intention was to advance future federal, regional, and local restoration goals.
